Hello, Detective William Gruff.
» Is there anything you would rather be called?
While on duty I prefer to be properly addressed as Detective Gruff, however off duty I do not mind what I am called, William, Will, Bill; most of my mates call me Bill, though my mother still calls me with Billy, when she remembers who I am that is.
» Great, now that we've got that covered. How old are you?
Fifty eight, but don’t think that it’ll slow me down.
» You know, has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like...?
R. D. Call, I know, good looking man.

Let's talk about your personality.
» What are a few of your favorite things?
I enjoy coming home to slow roasted pork or a nice thick stew, served with a nice bottle of red wine. Then finishing off the evening with a nice cigar. Of course I also always love a good book, and when I can, I like going to art galleries and museums to look around.
»That's interesting. Is there anything you absolutely dislike?
Bureaucratic red tape that impedes investigations. Cliche, I know, but nothing pisses off a detective more then anything is a perp getting away on a technicality.
» Hm, what is your greatest fear?
That one of those scum I hunt down do their crazy shit to my family. I just wouldn’t know what to do if any of them were hurt or killed.
» Yeah, that is scary. Do you have any dreams for the future?
Retiring still alive at the great age of ninety then moving to where the sun always shines.
» Wow, I hope you succeed. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I’ve been a cop all my life, always wanted to be a detective, read too many mysteries as a child I suppose. Been working Faraway Island as long as I can remember and coming home to my wife for just as long. We never had any kids, both agreed that it wasn’t something we’d be good at, neither of us are the nurturing type.

So far so good. Now for history.
» So tell me, where are you from? What did you think of it?
Well I’m from Faraway Island, always enjoyed living here, even in the worst of times, I feel like it’s were I belong.
» Do you have any other family? Parents? Siblings? Extended? What do you think about them?
Well my mother is still alive, though she doesn’t often remember who I am, she lives on the outskirts of town with a live-in, I always loved her growing up, she was stern but fair. I got two younger brothers, love them both. And of course I live with my wife, Eleanor, whom I cherish deeply, even when she throws the frying pan at me.
» What is your worst memory/memories?
When we were younger men, my brothers and I were having lunch together, I wasn’t a detective then mind you, so this is going way back. After we finished and payed we started walking back downtown, but I forgot something at the store and ran quickly back. As I caught back up to them, I saw some guy knock my younger brother to the ground and make both give him their wallets. I approached him, letting him know I was police, telling him to give the wallets back and to get down to the ground. Instead he tried to go for my brother who was still standing, and in that split second I let a shot off and he spun, falling to the ground. It was the first and only time I’ve had to use my gun.
» What is your best memory/memories?
My wedding day, it was nice, we had a small ceremony, just family and close friends. Eleanor looked so beautiful, and I was so happy. Probably nothing better then that day ever, though making detective felt pretty good too, I love my wife more.
» Where are you now? What are you doing with your life?
I’m still living in the same apartment, working at the same precinct, trying to solve whatever cases come my way. Enjoying every moment of it all too.
