Hello, Fa Mulan.
» Is there anything you would rather be called?
"Mulan. I don't really have any unusually or quirky nicknames."
» Great, now that we've got that covered. How old are you?
"Twenty five years old."
» You know, has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like...?
"Li Bingbing? I've been told this a few times, funnily enough."

Let's talk about your personality.
» What are a few of your favorite things?
"Being a master in the martial arts - totally helps in my line of work; defending my family and protecting innocent people; keeping fit; puzzles - anything to keep my brain stimulated; creativity; fireworks; my lucky cricket; horses - I have a pet horse back at my parents' farm named Kahn; people with a good sense of humor; bravery."
»That's interesting. Is there anything you absolutely dislike?
"Having to pretend to be someone I'm not; arranged marriage - I just want to live my life and see what happens, not to have to worry about marrying someone because other people say I should. People who don't stand up for themselves; the fact that sexism still exists in my culture and how people can't just shake off the "old ways"; when my male colleagues underestimate my abilities and choose to mock me - personally I think it's because I'm better than them, and it scares them."
» Hm, what is your greatest fear?
"Falling in love. Sounds terrifying."
» Yeah, that is scary. Do you have any dreams for the future?
"I'd love a job promotion. Something a little more challenging - like detective or military officer. Anything that will allow me to continue to prove myself and my skill. To make others see that it doesn't matter that I'm a girl; I can do the same job just as well, if not better than most men."
» Wow, I hope you succeed. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
"Well I live in the city - I moved from China, where I lived with my elderly, tradition-orientated parents on their farm. I was born there, but moved to Faraway to start a new life once I was old enough to do so. I'd always felt that my parents' plans for my future were ill-fitted to me; my family believe that a young Chinese woman should be "graceful", "demure", "obedient", "feminine" and most of all, "silent." I hold none of these qualities, being bold, outspoken, independent and rather clumsy.
So when the time came for me to meet the matchmaker, it was a disaster. I decided to study abroad, much to my parents' displeasure, and chose Faraway as my location. At the time, the place seemed great but as life went on, I began to realise that the crime rates had risen rapidly over the years. It seemed that no one was safe. So, I decided to take up a career in law enforcement - there had to be some sense of justice in a world so polluted by evil, right? Anyway, I completed all of my training and obtained work as a police officer, patrolling the dangerous streets of the city and downtown. It's difficult, being the only woman on my squad, but I know that I can do it, so I don't complain too much."

So far so good. Now for history.
» So tell me, where are you from? What did you think of it?
"I'm from China; I miss it, but I'm also free from the pressures of tradition to some degree, so I've learnt to embrace life in Faraway. Even if it is pretty risky from time to time."
» Do you have any other family? Parents? Siblings? Extended? What do you think about them?
"My father, Fa Zhou; mother, Fa Li; and Grandmother Fa. Then there are my ancestors. I love them all very much, and I'm extremely protective of them, however I often wish they'd just let me be who I want to be without pestering me into settling down."
» What is your worst memory/memories?
"The day I met with the matchmaker; I was so clumsy and awkward, not to mention terrified. I didn't want to bring dishonor upon my family, but I also didn't feel ready to have some stranger choose me to be his bride. I was uneasy and scared; it's no surprise the entire ceremony turned out to be a disaster."
» What is your best memory/memories?
"When I graduated from college; I was the first woman in my family to ever do such a thing and it makes me proud. I just wish it made my parents proud too."
» Where are you now? What are you doing with your life?
"I'm working hard to promote justice around Faraway during the day as a law enforcement officer. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. I live in a modest apartment in the city on my own, and spend my free time training at the gym, painting and reading."
