Hello, Vasilissa Yaga.
» Is there anything you would rather be called?
Well, Vasilissa is just fine. Nobody’s ever called me anything else.
» Great, now that we've got that covered. How old are you?
I’ve just turned twenty.
» You know, has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like...?
Lena Katina. I guess it’s the hair.

Let's talk about your personality.
» What are a few of your favorite things?
Well…okay, I know this is childish…*looks down*…My doll. My mother gave it to me, and it’s the most important thing in my life—which is why I can animate it, according to Baba Yaga. And, of course, learning magic with her! It’s so much fun! Everyone says she’s a mean old witch who’d eat you as soon as look at you, but—well, okay, that’s true, but if you get on her good side, you should be fine! I love to read books as well, and the Night is giving me riding lessons. Although I do keep falling off.
»That's interesting. Is there anything you absolutely dislike?
Well, I don’t like it when Baba Yaga eats people, but she says they always deserve it, but that’s only by her standards…er…yeah. I don’t like it when people are cruel. Or when someone tries to hurt me. Well, I guess nobody ever likes that, right? I don’t like when people hurt my friends either. Or hurting other people. I’d hate to make someone else sad.
» Hm, what is your greatest fear?
Well…don’t tell anyone, but I’m really scared I might mess up. Some of the stuff Baba Yaga is teaching me is pretty dangerous, and I might hurt someone with it…I don’t know. And I don’t want to disappoint Baba Yaga, not with all she’s done for me at her own expense.
» Yeah, that is scary. Do you have any dreams for the future?
Well, I guess I’d just like to learn more magic. Baba Yaga’s got my days so stuffed I hardly ever have time to think. *nervous laugh* But I’d love to be one of those sorceresses-on-call…you know, the ones you call up if you’re being haunted or have a gingerbread men infestation or maybe even Feegles? (Although I’m not so sure about the Feegles…) I’d just like to help people.
» Wow, I hope you succeed. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Of course. Let’s see…well, I was my father’s favorite child, being his only child, but then he got married again. He was still nice, but my stepsisters were really mean to me if I got in their way…I guess that’s why Baba Yaga is always telling me to be louder. If I was quiet they left me alone. And my stepmother never even bothered to notice me; she was too busy trying to get Daddy to give her money. And then Daddy went away, and then even when I was quiet my stepsisters bugged me. They made me do all their chores, and yes, I know I should probably have done something, but there were two of them!
Anyway, one day when they ran out of fire, they sent me to go get some from Baba Yaga. They put it out on purpose; they just wanted to get rid of me. *sniffs* No, I’m fine, really. Anyway, apart from the fact Baba Yaga kept threatening to eat me, she was really nice. She even told me all about her servants. Of course, when she found out about the doll, she freaked out, but that was only because I lied to her. She thought it was my mother’s ghost. Baba Yaga doesn’t like ghosts, I don’t know why. Anyway…*looks around* *lowers voice* Don’t tell anyone, but I went out with the Tsar for a little while. He wasn’t very nice, though. He locked Nathan in the basement. Oh, Nathan? He’s my best friend. Yes, I know he’s a disembodied skull, but he’s really cool.

So far so good. Now for history.
» So tell me, where are you from? What did you think of it?
Well, our town wasn’t really big, and it wasn’t really small, but honestly right now I can’t even remember the name, sorry. Daddy wasn’t really that rich of a merchant, so we couldn’t afford a very big house, but he looked richer than he actually was.
» Do you have any other family? Parents? Siblings? Extended? What do you think about them?
Well, of course there was Daddy, but he’s dead now, and my mom died when I was just a kid. And, of course, there’s my stepmom and stepsisters. I don’t really like to talk about them.
» What is your worst memory/memories?
Oh, dear. Well, my worst memory is the day my stepsisters put out the fire on purpose. They said I had to go find new fire because I was the only one who didn’t have something that glittered. Yes, I know that’s a silly reason. It was so cold and dark outside, and I didn’t know the woods back then like I do now. It was terrifying, and I was jumping at every sound, and then I found Baba Yaga’s chicken-legged house. I was scared of her then, too. And the skulls—even Nathan—were frightening. And I had to ask her for fire, because nobody else had any.
» What is your best memory/memories?
My best memory so far, I guess, would be the day I first animated my doll. I didn't know it was me doing it at the time, so at first I was freaked out, but it was a lot of help! You see, Baba Yaga wanted me to sort out the poppy seeds and the lentils, which are both really small, and I just couldn't do it, and I was freaking out...and then, suddenly, the doll's eyes just started glowing and it told me to go get some sleep. When I woke up the seeds were sorted and the doll was just sitting there, but pretty soon I figured out how to make it do that again. (Although Baba Yaga says I should stop feeding it, since that's just a crutch.)
» Where are you now? What are you doing with your life?
Right now, I’m staying with Baba Yaga. She adopted me sort of informally, and she’s teaching me magic. She also told me not to lie to her about anything again—she knows the doll is just my magic acting up, now, but it scared her half to death the first time. Apparently ghosts wreak havoc on the wards if she’s not prepared for them. I act mostly like her apprentice, cleaning and cooking and running errands. Her cottage is pretty deep in the forest, so if I have to go into town I take the mortar and pestle, which really aren’t that hard to drive once you’ve got the hang of it. I also help out the people in town for free, but only small stuff. I don’t want to blow anyone up. (And, unfortunately, that’s not a joke.)
